Charyn Canyon is “the little brother" of the American Grand Canyon. Its length is approx. 200 km and height is from 100 up to 300 m. The red clay walls of the canyon are carved with deep fissures, forming caves, grottos and shady niches of different shapes and sizes.
They creat an impression of huge, ghost city inhabited by fantastic creatures.
The Charyn Canyons one of the most exotic places you could visit. The strange forms left by erosion and weathering create an unreal fairyland of weird sandstone sculptures - the Valley of Castles, Witches' Gorge, and so оn.
The canyon extends for 171 km along the Charyn river, one of the deepest rivers one of the deepest river in northern Tien-Shan (200 km east of Almaty). This unusually picturesque section has а very varied relief.
